On-Air Details

I'm the host of WTOS Homegrown, devoted to playing the best local pure rock Maine and NH have to offer. You can check that out at 6 PM every Wednesday night.

Sunday night at 8 PM is my favourite night here at The Mountain. Every Sunday night I feed your classic metal addiction by being the High Priest of The Metal Church. It's two hours of vintage metal from the 70s, hair bands and more of the 80s, and even some stuff from the early 90s. Worship at the alter of excess as we celebrate metal's glory years every Sunday night from 8-10.

About Kennedy

I'm one of a great number of Southern Maine boys (Cheverus HS) that grew up preferring The Mountain to The Blimp. When I was breaking into radio at St. Michael's College in Vermont, I told friends that WTOS was the one "real station" that I wanted to work for. A decade and change later, here I am, after an awesome stint at the mighty WMHB at Colby College in Waterville.

I have a lot of favourite bands. I'll break 'em down by category.

My top few bands we play at WTOS, in no particular order after #1: Rush, Tool, Ra, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Korn, Faith No More, Metallica, Queensryche, Soundgarden, Guns 'N' Roses, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Megadeth and pretty much every 80s hair band (except Poison and Bon Jovi).

Kickass bands we do NOT (or rarely) play at WTOS: The Tragically Hip, Deadsy, Cheap Trick, Flogging Molly, Peter Gabriel, Veruca Salt, Great Big Sea, The Police, Dropkick Murphys, U2, any Irish Drinking Music.

My faves among the locals: Thai, Dead Season, Soundbender, Unlucky Joe, Hour-Past, Ransom/A New Vision, Trebuk, Civil Disturbance, Tomorrow's Tragedy, Django and Rustic Overtones forever!

And I'm an avid sports fan. You can find me cheering on my Montreal Canadiens, Maine Black Bears, Lewiston Maineiacs, Arsenal FC, New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Glasgow Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals (from my 4-years in St. Louis).

WTOS HOMEGROWN IS BACK!

Wednesday nights, 6 PM, an hour of the best pure rock Maine has to offer. WTOS Homegrown returns.

Attention local bands: Want to be on Homegrown? Here's what you need to do:

-Drop off or send a CD of your music to me. The address is Kennedy: WTOS Homegrown, 150 Whitten Road, Augusta, ME 04330. Please send a CD, and not an emailed Mp3. Mp3's (or requests to "check out our MySpace without including a CD) won't get you on the air.

-Include with your CD a short biography for the band. Who's in the band, where are you guys from, how long have you been playing together, were you in any other bands....stuff like that. Include anything else you want me to know about you. Remember, we may not know much about your band, so what you tell is the only way we can get listeners information about you.

-Put it all together in a neat package. You only get one chance to make a first impression! :)

-Remember: submitting your music to Homegrown does NOT mean it'll get played--especially if the recording quality is poor.
However, we want to play as MANY Maine / NH (local) bands as we can, so if your music is good, you've got a decent shot!

Thanks.  Looking forward to hearing all you guys!

I was going through my box of ticket stubs, and was thinking of all the shows I've seen in the last 25 years (my first show was Scorpions in 1983). Figured I'd make a little list of what I've taken in so far. This isn't a complete list--I'm sure I'm missing a couple--but it's not a bad account.

Wonder what the next 25 years will bring? :)
